This tutorial examines many aspects of the interrelationship between the pH that a drug resides and the pKa values for its acidic and basic functional groups. Stepwise approaches are provided for solving both qualitative and quantitative problems. Additionally, the latter portion of the tutorial discusses the overall importance of pH and pKa in relationship to solubility, duration of action, drug binding, chemical antagonism, and drug interactions.
